Powderpuff is a diverse way to play football. It usually consists of playoffs between the Juniors vs. Freshmen and Seniors vs. Sophomores with the winners from both playing the final game. Of course, we switch things up a little. The girls play the game while the boys applaud them from the sidelines as cheerleaders.
Normally there is a Senior bias that occurs, so that even when the underclassmen play fairly well, the referees tend to lean toward the Seniors, since it is their year to graduate. Seniors always win. Although… this year we had an unexpected surprise from Burley High School’s Juniors.
It came down to the Juniors vs. Seniors last night where the game was scoreless. After a night of hard-core competition, the refs decided a sudden death field goal would be the best way to end the game. Caitlyn Bennett who had played her game the entire night stepped up for the Juniors, with Brandi Potts for the Seniors. Juniors won with a bit of soccer skills from Miss Bennett, driving the Juniors to the center of the field to celebrate.
After the victory, Coach Drew Bailey for the Juniors stated, “We ran the ball well tonight. It was a whole team effort…Juniors are #1!” Junior, Chelsae Graf also shared her excitement by saying, “We were so pumped! And we just had a great time.” Congratulations to the Juniors for last night’s victory, the first Junior victory at Skagg’s Field.

I believe the Junior class in 2006-2007 definately beat the Seniors in Powderpuff. History was already changed. I watched as Cynthia Rios passed for at least 1 touchdown pass if not 2.
