Gertrude Lillian “Scotty” Sabey, age 87, of Twin Falls, formerly of Heyburn, and Milk River, Alberta, Canada, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Stanstead, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Ernest Ambrose and Mary Christina (Johnson) Scott. She married Richard Toomer “Dick” Sabey on Oct. 15, 1949, in Magrath, Alberta, Canada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Cardston Alberta Temple. While living in Canada, Scotty worked as a registered nurse. After moving to Idaho, she and her husband, Dick, owned and operated the Cactus Inn Motel, the Lynwood Dry Cleaners & Laundry, and Sabey’s Main Street Cleaners.
Scotty was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in various callings throughout her life. Together with her husband, they served as missionaries in the Chicago Illinois Temple. She loved music and especially liked to sing and play the piano. Additionally, she enjoyed square dancing and was a CSI basketball fan.
Scotty was a loving wife, mother and an outstanding grandmother. She loved being with family and participating in their activities.
She is survived by her children, Patricia “Patty” Sabey of Springville, Utah, Richard S. “Rick” (Christine) Sabey of Kimberly, Mary (Ned) Moon of Heyburn, and Brenda Sabey of St. George, Utah; eight grandchildren, Jim (Geneveve) Sabey, Alison Sabey, Chad (Brittney) Sabey, Kyle (Aubrey) Moon, Juliana Moon, Richard C. (Abbey) Sabey, Nickole Sabey and Alex Moon; five great-grandchildren, Jarred, Zach, Amarese, Shyanne and Brenna; one brother, William Dean (Cathy) Scott of Osoyoos, British Columbia, Canada; one sister, Mildred “Midge” (Dale) Miller of Hatley, Quebec, Canada; and a sister-in-law, Eva Scott of Walkerton, Ontario, Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick, who died on March 10, 2009; and two brothers, Eric and Dale Scott.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, at the Twin Falls LDS West Stake Center (Harrison Building), 667 Harrison St., with Bishop Kasey Teske officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at the Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn.
Friends and family may call from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
