During the month of November the Burley Library is pleased to accept food in lieu of fines, with the food to be distributed to local area food banks. The purpose of the program is to give library users an opportunity to clear their outstanding fines and continue using the library in tight economic times. It is also a time to support the area’s local food banks.
Each item of food cancels $1.00 or less of any fine. Examples of accepted food items are canned fruits or vegetables, pork and beans, boxed macaroni and cheese, soup, cereal, rice, canned meat or fish, peanut butter, pasta or canned sauce. Four packages of instant noodle or rice soups will be accepted toward $1.00 of fines.
The library can accept only unopened, pre-packaged foods and cannot accept damaged packaging, including dented cans. No perishable food or condiments such as ketchup or mayonnaise or products in glass will be taken.
Food will be accepted for Burley Library overdue fines only, and not for lost or damaged items. In addition, anyone wishing to make a food donation may do so. Please bring the items to the library at 1300 Miller Avenue in Burley. For more information, please contact the library director Julie Woodford at 878-7708, or online at www.bplibrary.org
