The Burley High School varsity soccer team won in the district tournament today at Wood River. The score was 3- 0. Despite cold temperatures, enthusiasm was high. Saul Esquivel scored in the first half for Burley. In the second half Logan Searle scored on a kick that bounced over the goalie’s head. Caesar Mendoza sealed the game with a spectacular bicycle kick goal. Wood River was held scoreless in a very physical match. They were awarded an indirect kick inside the 18. Burley’s defense was tough, and deflected the kick. Burley is now 2 and 0 in district playoff. They meet top seed Jerome at Jerome on Monday.
The Burley girls soccer team also won their district game today at home against Canyon Ridge. The Bobcats goal came from Aubrey Vale, and was enough to give Burley the 1-0 win. The girls will meet Minico Monday at Minico for their next district tournament game.
