Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe by email for local news updates.
We hope you've enjoyed the flowers on Main and Overland this summer. As
you've probably noticed they've all been picked up so we can clean up and
get ready for the change in weather. We would like everyone to know that we
will be putting more planters out in the Spring thanks to the support of
many individuals and businesses as well as that of the City Council and
Mayor Anderson.

We know from example that a project like this is not
possible without the support of the City so we appreciate the help and
support they've given us. We've had a lot of questions about the flowers
and our source for the flowers. We're happy to report that those beautiful
petunias were home grown by Evergreen Nursery in Burley. We think they did
a wonderful job.

We've also had many questions about the color and why we
chose those particular petunias. We found out through research and
recommendation that wave petunias are low maintenance great performers that
don't have to be cut back or have the the dead flowers removed. The faded
blooms just dry up and drop off. We felt for those reasons that they were a
perfect choice for our project. We also felt that the bright color we chose
grows well and makes a real statement. But look for a slight change next
year - just in a few areas to mix it up and experiment.

Also, when you're downtown next year and hopefully enjoying the flowers, or
if you have a business nearby, please stop and pick any weeds you see when
you pass them. If we all pitch in we won't have a weed in sight! Yea!! But,
please be careful if you're using round-up or other weed killers and make
sure you keep the spray away from the flowers. Thanks again ! We live in a
great community and we appreciate all your support. It's hard for us to get
around to everyone so if you know of anyone who is interested in having a
planter placed out by their business next year please give us a call.

Thank you so much for the work you have done to beautify Burley! That is awesome!
I was reading a social entrepreneur book in one of my classes. In this book, young artists were encouraged to help in beautifying the city with murals. Applying it to Burley, do you think that their are any young artists in Junior high, High School, and newly entering the art field could help with your plans?

    Sincerely,
    Lucas
